research study : Neurodivergence + Employment
The unemployment rate for adults with ASD is estimated at between 80 and 90 percent, with just 6 percent competitively employed. In response to this high unemployment rate, the growing number of high school students with ASD (over 200 within HDSB alone) as well as responding to school guidance counsellors' queries for career development programs specifically designed for these graduating students, Futures Found recently completed a formal pilot research study in cooperation with the Ontario Labour Market Partnerships (OLMP) program. This study is looked at current assessment tools and employment development models and their applicability for young adults with ASD transitioning to work. Evidenced-based feedback on the tools and model, steps for potential employees, and an employer tool kit are our targeted project outcomes currently under ongoing development.
